About Me

My Family

My Family ~ June 2008

My name is Sidney.  My friends call me Sid.  I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I was born and raised.  I am the mother of two boys.  My oldest is grown, in college, and living on his own.  My little one is home with me full-time, and he is the main subject of this blog. His name is Rocco Gavin (aka Bubby), and he is an Irish Italian lad full of energy, mischief, and curiosity. From the moment I saw a  red line on that pregnancy test, life has never been the same.  Raising Rocco has been a whirlwind adventure thus far, and I do not expect that to change anytime soon.

Before Rocco was born, I was a professional career nanny for over 20 years.  While I do not hold degrees in child development, psychology, or education, I believe my “field” experience working in the “trenches” caring for and helping raise more than two dozen children has given me a lot of insight.  This blog will be about the trials and tribulations of Raising Rocco, from my pregnancy through the present day, as I draw from my experiences as a nanny.  Hot topics will include my methods for helping little ones sleep, toilet learning, handling tantrums, and discipline.  There will be new blogs weekly with stories, ideas, and advice.  I am constantly doing research and will always provide links to useful articles and new information I find.  My hope is that my readers will find my writing interesting, helpful, and sometimes entertaining.

Thanks for reading~Sidney H. DeTora
